The National Super Alliance leader, Raila Odinga, will this week meet with his lawyers after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, refused to remove his name from October 26 ballot.
Lawyers James Orengo and Paul Mwangi say their boss is seeking their advice to decide on the next move, reports the Star.
Last week, as reported by Zipo.co.ke, Raila and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka pulled out of the the fresh presidential election citing the electoral agency’s unwillingness to implement his coalition’s demands otherwise known as irreducible minimums.
IEBC has refused to drop their names from the race saying Raila and Kalonzo are yet to officially withdraw from the race by signing the mandatory Form 24A.
“Our candidate arrived yesterday [Saturday] night and we will sit with him to find a way forward. We have not met him since he came back from the UK,” Mwangi, one of Raila’s top lawyers, said even as the publication quoted Orengo as saying the talks are ongoing.
The ex-Prime Minister wrote to the commission to notify of his withdrawal after the electoral body said it can not implement Nasa’s 11 demands.
“If IEBC goes ahead, it is not an election, but a selection. This must be done right in the interest of electoral democracy,” Raila said during an interview with Reuters when he toured the UK last week.
Raila wants the IEBC to conduct fresh nominations for the repeat poll and the election be postponed by 90 days.
This even as IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe said the printing of ballot papers by Dubai-based Al Ghurair firm was to start by yesterday (Sunday, October 15) latest.
A ruling by High Court judge John Mativo led to the inclusion of five presidential candidates after Thirdway Alliance Candidate, Ekuru Aukot, successfully challenged the commission’s attempt to remove him from the ballot.
