Mike Sonko jokes about his bad English, using bad English

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko recently cracked up Kenyans on social media after trolling himself over his lack of grasp of the English language.

Sonko, a flamboyant politician loved and loathed in equal measure, is no doubt one of the richest politicians in the country and is a life example of a grass to grace story. His education background has always been in question and his rivals even used it as a weapon against him in the run up to the August 8 polls.

So it was ironical when he took to social media on Thursday, December 7, to share an old video of Uganda’s former President, the late Idi Amin whose use of the Queen’s language was a treacherous affair, the same way he ruled our good neighbours.

In the clip seen by Zipo.co.ke, the Ugandan dictator is speaking to what seem to be doctors and nurses and is offering advice, in vain (mostly).

Governor Sonko added a hilarious caption that left his followers in stitches, he sensationally claimed that the late Idi Amin used to speak good English, unlike him and his Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu.

“This Guy used to speak good English than Governors Sonko and Waititu.” Sonko wrote on Facebook.

The two governors have been the butt of social media jokes and puns with Kenyans making fun of their English or lack of it thereof.

Below see how a few responded to Mike Sonko’s post:

Ngandu Ngandu: “You’re are right because there’s something called adjective in English, and in it we have different kinds; manner, place, degree and so on. Let’s briefly go through adjectives of degree; comparative- good becomes better. Example in a sentence; Amin spoke better English than Sonko and Waititu. Tuko pamoja my fren?”

Mosiah Musus: “The problem with kenyans is, they measure English and go a notch higher to add swahili with intelligency, it doesnt mean that when you speak good English you are intelligent!! English is just a language that somebody has to learn…”

Muluebrhan Gezae: “Your English is very much ok Governor. You have one of the best access to learning and you can excel further. This dictator can’t even qualify to be your student.”

One user noted that the politician had gotten over trolls and was now even joking about his poor English instead of arguing with them as he used to.
