Fight with Jaguar in Parliament comes back to haunt Babu Owino

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is back in the limelight after a voter wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly on Thursday, December 14 to push for his removal.

According to the petition seen by Zipo.co.ke, a voter by the name Bernard Abuya Momanyi is calling for action to be taken against Babu Owino for the physical attack on his Starehe counterpart Charles Njagua Kanyi alias Jaguar.

Mr Momanyi notes in the petition that Hon. Owino attacked Jaguar following a disagreement sparked by the Embakasi East first timer describing President Kenyatta as a caretaker president.

“The Hon. Babu Owino attempted to fight Hon. Charles Kanyi over what appeared to be a brawl relating to the words used by Hon. Babu Owino to describe the president as a ‘caretaker president’,” the petition reads.

A video of the incident was televised on national TV and showed Hon. Kanyi storming the Parliament media centre where his counterpart Owino had gone to speak with journalists before the fight broke out.

Babu Owino refused to publicly apologise for the altercation saying he was only acting on self-defence after he was attacked while on the other hand, Jaguar asked for forgiveness shortly after the scuffle.

The incident is still being investigated by the National Assembly’s Powers and Privileges Committee chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi and a verdict is expected within 60 days since the ugly brawl happened after which the committee will make recommendations to the house.
