Aboud Omar has delivered a bold message on Instagram after a dispute with Eric Johana led to their expulsion from the Harambee Stars camp. Aboud Omar, a defender for Kenya Police FC, stirred up controversy with a veiled message on Instagram following his removal from the Harambee Stars team set for Malawi.
The Stars departed early Thursday morning for the Four Nations Tournament without Omar and Eric Johana, a forward based in Romania, due to an altercation reported between them on Wednesday night. MozzartSport provided details on the conflict that resulted in their dismissal, noting the absence of both players at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as the team was gearing up to leave.
“When someone tries to provoke you during Ramadan. You son of a beautiful woman. I’m fasting,” Omar shared in his Instagram stories. Efforts by the coaching staff and teammates to calm the situation were reportedly unsuccessful, leading to a decisive action by the team management.
Coach Engin Firat, with the backing of the Football Kenya Federation, decided to exclude the involved players, a decision that the federation has not yet officially addressed. To compensate for the absence of Omar and Johana, the team brought in Vincent Mahiga from AFC Leopards and Shariff Musa from Gor Mahia.
Furthermore, Gor Mahia captain Geoffrey Simiti Onyango was added at the last minute, taking the place of the injured Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma. Several members of the provisional team were also left out, including Bandari’s David Sakwa and Murang’a Seal’s Bonphas Munyasa.
Attention now turns to the Harambee Stars’ first game against the host team, the Malawi Flames, on Saturday, March 23, with additional matches against Zimbabwe or Zambia scheduled for Tuesday, March 26. This tournament is key for Coach Engin Firat as he prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
