Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga and his team Al Duhail experienced a setback on Friday night, losing 1-0 to Umm Salal in a Qatar Stars League (QSL) encounter at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
The defeat was a significant blow for Duhail, marking their second loss of the season and interrupting their hopes of achieving a fourth consecutive league win. Olunga, who had previously excelled with a brace against Al Rayyan in their last QSL match, couldn’t replicate his form in this game despite playing the full 90 minutes and creating several promising opportunities.
A critical moment in the match occurred in the 64th minute when Umm Salal took the lead through Dutch player Oussama Tannane. Olunga, the league’s top scorer for the past two seasons, believed he had scored the equalizer in the 75th minute, but the goal was controversially disallowed, causing frustration for Al Duhail.
Following this loss, Al Duhail now sits in fourth place in the league standings with 16 points from eight matches, while Umm Salal climbed to sixth place, amassing 14 points from 10 matches, boosting their morale in the competition.
