Kenya Police FC and KCB FC are set to clash for a coveted spot in the CAF Confederation Cup during the FKF Cup final this Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
This decisive match, scheduled for 2pm, promises high stakes as both teams aim to secure their place in continental football. Under the leadership of head coach Salim Babu, Kenya Police FC is determined to achieve their first-ever appearance in the Confederation Cup. The team’s journey to the final included a hard-fought 1-0 victory over AFC Leopards.
“Our determination is unwavering as we strive for the trophy. We don’t plan to settle for anything less. We respect our opponents, but they should prepare for a tough battle,” Babu told reporters.
On the other side, KCB FC, guided by coach Bernard Mwalala, is equally eager to triumph and salvage their season after finishing tenth in the league. Mwalala, who previously won the Cup with Bandari in 2019, is optimistic about repeating his past success.
“We acknowledge that our league performance has been below expectations this season. We’re focusing on winning this Cup to thank our sponsors and then turning our attention to the Confederation competition. Right now, our main goal is to make the most of these 90 minutes to secure the title,” Mwalala commented.
KCB will face this crucial match without key players Brian Ochieng and Derrick Otanga, who are suspended due to accumulated yellow cards. However, they are strengthened by the return of goalkeeper Farook Shikhalo, expected to start in place of Gabriel Andika. Center-back Haniff Wesonga, fresh from his stint with the national U23 team, will anchor the defense against Kenya Police.
The head-to-head record since 2021 shows KCB with a slight advantage, having secured one victory and four draws out of seven encounters.
The final not only offers a chance at continental glory but also significant financial incentives. The winner will receive a cash prize of Sh. 2 million and the prestigious opportunity to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Before the main event, the third-place playoff will see AFC Leopards face Kariobangi Sharks at 11 am, competing for prizes of Sh700,000 and Sh500,000 respectively.
