Ex-AFC Leopards Coach Takes Up New Role in Congo Following Unsuccessful Attempts in FKF Premier League

Former AFC Leopards coach Luc Eymael has landed a coaching position after his efforts to rejoin the FKF Premier League were unsuccessful. Luc Eymael, the ex-head coach of AFC Leopards, has once again established himself in the coaching world, this time assuming leadership at FC Les Aigles in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

His appointment follows several failed attempts to secure a position in the FKF Premier League, with aspirations to join Bandari FC and a return to his previous team, AFC Leopards. Despite his attempts and submitting his resume to rejoin the Leopards last year, the team decided to move forward with Tomas Trucha in October.

Likewise, his potential move to Bandari FC this January did not materialize, as the club chose John Baraza as their head coach, prompting Eymael to search for new opportunities. His search brought him to FC Les Aigles, where he has been warmly received.

“Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, fellow Samurai, Luc Eymael is our new head coach. He will be introduced to the media by our club President Mr. Vidiye Tshimanga,” the club announced in a statement, signaling a fresh start for both Eymael and FC Les Aigles. Eymael is no stranger to the DR Congo league, having previously managed AS Vita Club to league success.

His return to the Congolese league is accompanied by expectations to lift FC Les Aigles to greater heights and perhaps mirror his previous success. Reflecting on his tenure with AFC Leopards in 2013, Eymael remarked, “My time at AFC was wonderful, especially the support from their fans. However, I feel we fell short of our goals, and I still believe I can lead them to the Premier League title that has eluded them.”

Eymael boasts an impressive resume with a UEFA Pro License, the highest level of football coaching accreditation. He is recognized for his role in developing several Belgian talents, including Eden Hazard, Axel Witsel, and Christian Benteke.

His coaching journey in Africa has been extensive, with stints in various countries including Rwanda, Tunisia, Oman, Tanzania, Libya, South Africa, and Sudan. Over the last decade, Eymael’s career has showcased his resilience and versatility across twelve coaching positions.

Although he missed out on the Uganda Cranes position, his new role at FC Les Aigles presents an exciting opportunity to leverage his vast experience and leadership skills.
