Former Shabana FC head coach Sammy Okoth is on a mission to lead a team to the Premier League for the second consecutive season after securing a new position in the NSL. Okoth has made his comeback to coaching with his recent appointment at National Super League (NSL) outfit Migori Youth, following his departure from Shabana in November of the previous year due to unsatisfactory results. After a nearly four-month hiatus, he has returned to the scene with Migori, where he’s been entrusted with the goal of achieving promotion.
Leveraging Okoth’s expertise from his successful campaign with Shabana, which saw them ascend to the premier division after 17 years, and his stints with Zoo FC and Vihiga United, Migori Youth is optimistic about their promotion prospects under his guidance. With the support of the club’s fans, technical team, and players, Okoth aims to improve the team’s performance significantly.
At his introduction, Okoth, who will be working alongside Kevin Oluoch, the team’s most recent coach, expressed his dedication to contributing his vast experience towards Migori Youth’s success. Club patron Mark Nyamita has emphasized Okoth’s primary objective: to secure the club’s promotion to the Premier League.
Nyamita has rallied the team and its supporters towards achieving victory in every match, expressing excitement for the upcoming season and the collective ambition to join the Premier League next year. Currently, Migori stands sixth in the 20-team NSL table with 33 points, trailing the leaders Naivas FC and Mathare United by 10 points, both of whom are in prime positions for automatic promotion with 18 games left.
Following the disappointment of the previous season, where Migori reached the promotion-relegation playoff only to be defeated by Muhoroni Youth with a 3-0 aggregate loss, the team is more determined than ever to achieve promotion.
