Gor Mahia coach Jonathan McKinstry still anticipates a close battle for the title despite his team holding an eight-point advantage over Tusker FC and Bandari. With nine games remaining, McKinstry remains focused on the tight competition for the FKF Premier League championship, even as Gor Mahia secures a significant lead.
The team was held to a goalless draw by Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday, missing the chance to extend their lead to 10 points following losses by Tusker FC and Bandari, their closest rivals.
Despite missed opportunities by Benson Omala and Shariff Musa in the first half, McKinstry expressed satisfaction with the draw, which positioned his team with 51 points after 25 games. He highlighted the physical challenge of facing Homeboyz and lamented the missed chances that could have secured a victory.
McKinstry stressed the importance of maintaining top performance, cautioning that the eight-point lead does not guarantee security. Looking ahead, Gor Mahia is set to face the last-place Nzoia Sugar, with McKinstry alert to the potential for surprises, as demonstrated by Homeboyz’s strong performance despite their mid-table position.
The coach emphasized the value of the lead but acknowledged the need for continued effort to secure the title, expressing optimism for the upcoming match against Nzoia.
