Kenyan Defender Alphonce Omija Leaves Dhofar Club for Gor Mahia After Triumphant Stint
Kenyan defender Alphonce Omija has officially left Oman’s Dhofar Club and will return to Kenya to join Gor Mahia, following the expiration of his contract.
This move follows a notably successful period for Omija at Dhofar, where he joined in February 2023 and became a crucial part of the team. During his tenure, Omija was instrumental in securing the His Majesty Sultan Cup in May, marking a high point in his career with Dhofar.
The club expressed their appreciation for his contributions in a brief statement on X (formerly Twitter).
“Harambee Stars defender Alphonce Omija will join Gor Mahia on a one-season deal from Dhofar Club,” the statement read.
At just 21 years old, Omija’s journey in football has been nothing short of inspirational. Starting on the streets of Korogocho in Nairobi, his raw talent was first nurtured at Gor Mahia’s youth system alongside peers like Geoffrey Ojung’a and Lloyd Kavuchi.
His significant breakthrough came at Kariobangi Sharks, where his performances earned him local acclaim and paved the way for his international career.
Valued at £225,000 (approximately Ksh 37.5 million), Omija’s move is seen as a strategic acquisition for Gor Mahia as they aim to strengthen their defense for the upcoming season.
His return to Gor Mahia is eagerly anticipated by fans and former teammates alike.
Born on October 9, 2002, in Nairobi, Omija attended St. John’s Catholic School and later Baba Dogo Secondary School. His upbringing in Nairobi’s challenging neighborhoods has not only grounded him but also fueled his ambition to succeed internationally.
