Humphrey Mieno: Experienced Midfielder Rumored for Remarkable Comeback to AFC Leopards

Humphrey Mieno, Sofapaka’s midfielder, is reportedly on AFC Leopards’ radar as they seek to bolster their squad in the January transfer window. The Kenyan football community is abuzz with speculation about Mieno’s potential return to one of his previous teams.

Mieno, who made an impressive comeback to Sofapaka following the end of his contract with Tusker FC last season, has been a standout performer in a challenging season for Batoto ba Mungu. As the January transfer window opens, he is now linked with a move to the Leopards, who are on the lookout for a creative midfielder to rejuvenate their 2023-24 campaign.

An AFC Leopards source told Pulse Sports, “It’s a possibility, but no discussions have taken place yet. There’s been talk about his transfer within our club, but the coach hasn’t made a request for him. He saw Mieno play against Sofapaka but didn’t show immediate interest.”

“We need a No. 10, a creative midfielder, and that’s probably why Mieno’s name is coming up,” the source added, preferring to remain anonymous.

The Leopards are gearing up for a busy mid-season in the transfer market, aiming to add a creative midfielder and a striker to their ranks. Coach Tomas Trucha is particularly keen on improving the team’s chance-creation capabilities.

Whether 33-year-old Mieno is the right fit is yet to be determined, but his extensive experience could prove beneficial for the Leopards. Trucha witnessed Mieno’s skills firsthand when the player scored a spectacular bicycle kick goal in a November match that ended in a 1-1 draw, a game the Leopards nearly won.

Mieno, who has previously played for Mahakama, KCB, and Gor Mahia, had a stint with the Leopards from 2014 to 2015 before his first move to Tusker, spending seven months at the den.
