Kenyan football sensation Eric Johana has embarked on a new chapter in his career by signing a promising two-year contract with Romanian Super Liga team FC UTA Arad. This move marks a significant transition from his previous club, Muangthong United in Thailand.
Eric Johana, a 29-year-old attacking midfielder, demonstrated his exceptional skills during the recent Thai season, scoring ten goals and providing three crucial assists in 28 appearances.
With his transfer to UTA Arad, Johana will now don the number 24 jersey, a change from the number 19 he wore at Muangthong. The official announcement of his signing was made by the club, warmly welcoming the talented midfielder to Arad and emphasizing his role in strengthening the squad under the leadership of head coach Mircea Rednic.
In an official statement, the club expressed, “Striker Eric Johana Omondi arrived in Arad today and will join the team led by Mircea Rednic. Omondi will wear the number 24 jersey for the next two seasons. We wish him a warm welcome and hope for as many goals as possible for UTA!”
Born on August 18, 1994, in Nairobi, Kenya, Johana began his football journey in his homeland with Mathare United. He later ventured into European football, playing for Vasalunds IF, Brommapojkarna, and Jönköpings Södra in the Swedish championship. Johana also had a stint in Belgium, representing Beveren, before making the move to Muangthong United in Thailand in July 2022, where he made a lasting impact with his impressive goal-scoring record.
FC UTA Arad has been actively bolstering its squad, with Johana joining the ranks alongside Ghanaian forward Godberg Barry Cooper, who became a part of the UTA Arad family in July. This addition reflects the club’s ambition to achieve success in the competitive Super Liga.
