Manchester City vs Brentford Prediction: 14/9/2024

Manchester City has been dominant for several years, consistently adding to their trophy cabinet. They reached a major milestone in 2023, winning their first-ever Champions League.

Domestically, they have been nearly unbeatable, securing six Premier League titles in the last seven seasons. Last year, City captured their fourth consecutive league title, though Arsenal pushed them close, finishing just two points behind.

As the favorites to defend their crown this season, Manchester City made a strong start, winning their first three matches against Chelsea (0-2), Ipswich (4-1), and West Ham (1-3).

Before the Premier League began, Pep Guardiola’s men also triumphed over Manchester United in the Community Shield, winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Brentford, who have been in the top flight since 2021, have managed to avoid relegation comfortably. Last season, they finished 16th, 13 points clear of the drop zone.

Determined to steer clear of another relegation battle, Brentford have started this season well. They lost 2-0 to Liverpool on matchday two, but secured home victories over Crystal Palace (2-1) and Southampton (3-1) before the international break. Additionally, Brentford progressed in the League Cup by defeating Colchester 1-0.

Manchester City will be without the promising young winger Bobb, who is sidelined with an injury. There is also some uncertainty about the availability of Phil Foden.

After a fantastic Euro campaign with Spain, captain Rodri is expected to start his Premier League season with City this weekend. Erling Haaland has been in sensational form, scoring seven goals in the league, including a hat-trick in his last outing.

Over the summer, City sold players like Julian Alvarez (to Atlético Madrid), João Cancelo (to Al-Hilal), and Harwood-Bellis (to Southampton), among others. The club welcomed back former captain Ilkay Gündogan after his stint at Barcelona, and added Brazilian winger Savinho to their squad.

Brentford, meanwhile, are still missing long-term absentees like defenders Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey, as well as midfielder Josh Dasilva and summer signing Igor Thiago, who is injured.

With the departure of key striker Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have taken on greater responsibility, both shining in Brentford’s last match with two goals and one goal respectively.

Brentford permanently lost goalkeeper David Raya, who is now with Arsenal, while midfielders Onyeka (to Augsburg) and substitutes Strakosha, Baptiste, and Ghoddos have also moved on.

However, the club has invested significantly in players like defenders van den Berg and Meghoma, midfielder Fabio Carvalho, young winger Gustavo Nunes, and striker Igor Thiago.

Prediction

Manchester City are on a fantastic run, having won eight of their last nine matches, and are unbeaten in their last five home games. Brentford, on the other hand, have struggled on the road, losing 10 of their 13 away matches this season. Given these factors, City are expected to continue their dominance.

Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Brentford
