Why McKinstry Wants Gor Mahia Fans to Outnumber AFC Leopards Supporters at Nyayo

Gor Mahia will go up against AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium this Sunday, aiming to secure another win over their longtime rivals.

Gor Mahia’s head coach, Jonathan McKinstry, has issued a call to the club’s fans to show up in large numbers and surpass the presence of AFC Leopards’ supporters at the stadium for the impending match.

Originally, the game was scheduled to be held at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, but Gor Mahia received approval from Sports Kenya to relocate the event to Nyayo Stadium.

As the derby draws closer, McKinstry is mobilizing supporters from both sides to fill the seats of Nyayo Stadium, promising an exciting game.

“I encourage supporters from both teams, and everyone interested, to come out and attend the game. Hopefully, we’ll witness a great match,” said McKinstry, who has previously led his team to league victories.

Emphasizing the importance of the Mashemeji derby, McKinstry noted, “The Mashemeji derby is not just a big event in Kenya but also for East African football. We’re looking forward to a colorful day with a packed stadium, hoping it will be one of the season’s highlights with quality football in front of a large audience.”

Gor Mahia is determined to continue their strong performance in the derby, having won 10 out of their last 15 encounters with AFC Leopards. In contrast, the Leopards have secured only one victory, with four games ending in draws.

“The team is ready to put in their all. It’s a significant match for the players; they are eager to perform well for the fans and for themselves. We’re set on taking the three points and ensuring a great weekend for our supporters,” affirmed McKinstry.

Reflecting on the path ahead for Gor Mahia to achieve their goals, McKinstry acknowledged the mixed results leading up to this match. Gor has collected 10 points from a possible 15, while AFC Leopards have managed to accumulate 8 points from the same number of games. Last weekend, Gor achieved a 3-1 win over the bottom-ranked Nzoia Sugar, whereas Leopards clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against Posta Rangers.

With everything in place for a riveting clash, McKinstry’s call to action for Gor Mahia fans sets the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable Mashemeji derby at Nyayo Stadium.
