Newcastle vs Wolves Prediction: 15/1/2025

Newcastle is focused on securing European qualification this season and currently sits 5th in the Premier League, just one point behind 4th place. After a slow start, the Magpies have found their rhythm, climbing the table with an impressive run of performances.

They are on a five-game winning streak in the league, securing dominant victories over Leicester (4-0), Ipswich (4-0), Aston Villa (3-0), Manchester United (2-0), and Tottenham (2-1). Additionally, they defeated Arsenal 2-0 away in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final last week and hosted Bromley in the FA Cup over the weekend.

Wolverhampton, on the other hand, is enduring a difficult campaign and currently occupies 17th place in the Premier League, level on points with the first relegation spot.

A managerial change in mid-December provided a temporary boost, with new coach Vitor Pereira overseeing wins against Leicester (3-0) and Manchester United (2-0) as well as a 2-2 draw at Tottenham. However, Wolves stumbled again with a heavy 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest last Monday and faced Bristol City in the FA Cup over the weekend.

Newcastle will be missing key players, including first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope, striker Callum Wilson, and backup defenders Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth. Despite these absences, they can rely on the prolific Alexander Isak, who has scored 13 goals and registered four assists this season, cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s top forwards.

Supporting him are wingers Jacob Murphy, with three goals and seven assists, and Anthony Gordon, with five goals and five assists. Additionally, defensive stalwart Sven Botman has recently returned from injury, boosting their backline.

Wolves also face selection challenges, with defenders Toti and Yerson Mosquera, long-term absentee Adama Traoré, and reserve forwards Sasa Kalajdzic and Gonzalez all unavailable.

On the positive side, Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha, who has tallied ten goals and four assists this season, is back from suspension and is expected to pair up with Strand Larsen, who has contributed seven goals and two assists.

However, defensive frailties remain a significant issue, as Wolves hold the league’s worst defensive record. In response, they signed Agbadou from Reims to strengthen their backline.

Prediction

Newcastle has been dominant at home, winning six of their last eight matches and remaining unbeaten in their last seven league games against Wolves, with three wins in their previous four encounters. Wolves, by contrast, have struggled on the road, winning only three of their last 19 away matches in the Premier League.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Wolves
