The chairman of Tusker, Charles Gacheru, has seemingly taken a subtle jab at Gor Mahia fans, suggesting that despite being fewer in number, Tusker’s supporters are more passionate. This comment comes just before the anticipated FKFPL clash at Machakos Stadium this weekend.
Tusker has recently seen a remarkable rise in the league standings, winning five consecutive matches, which places them in third, trailing Gor Mahia by nine points.
A victory for Tusker would bring them within six points of the league leaders as they enter the 19th matchweek. This prospect is exciting for Tusker fans, who have witnessed their team win two of the last three league championships.
Despite their success, Tusker is not known for having a large fanbase, unlike teams like Gor Mahia, Shabana, and AFC Leopards, which enjoy substantial support.
In a post on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, Gacheru seemed to make a veiled criticism of Gor Mahia’s supporters, emphasizing the importance of having fewer but more ‘passionate’ fans, as opposed to a large number of less supportive ones.
“The number of fans is not what matters. It’s the quality of the fans,” Gacheru wrote. “Tusker FC fans are authentic, passionate, and committed!”
Robert Matano, the head coach of Tusker, believes his team is now primed to compete for their 13th title after a slow start to the season.
“During the early part of the season, when our fans were vocal, I asked for their patience and for time to allow the team to mesh. The fruits of our labor are now visible to everyone,” Matano commented.
“I am pleased with our recent achievements and believe we have returned to our rightful place in the title race.”
Matano is hopeful that they will continue their successful streak in the upcoming challenging match against Gor Mahia.
“Gor is having one of their best seasons, but I am confident we can overpower them,” Matano asserted.
