Since its creation back in 2012, the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has not faced turbulent times of this magnitude.
Its leadership; Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and their For Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula, have never spoken from a script so different.
In fact, Tuko notes, what is remaining now is the day an official announcement will be made by either of them that he and his party has pulled out of the Opposition coalition. Which will mean the coalition’s death.
This became even more evident thanks to sentiments the three principals made over the weekend as they toured different parts of the country to popularise their individual parties and their presidential bids in readiness for 2017.
As it stands, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) looks to going it alone and has indicated it will not accept any other candidate for the presidency apart from its chief Raila Odinga.
Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper and Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya also insist that their respective leaders are ones best suited.
Wetangula, on Sunday, lashed out at Raila as he continues to sell his presidential bid to the electorate.
While speaking in Narok county on Sunday, October 2, Wetangula maintained that Raila’s time in active politics is over and asked him once more to step aside and support someone else – either him or Kalonzo Musyoka.
According to the Bungoma Senator, the former premier should be a kingmaker, promising him a special place in the Cord government should someone else in the coalition win.
He echoed Kalonzo who had said a day earlier that Raila should shelve his presidential ambitions and support him for the top seat.
Raila has had a shot at presidency three times but lost in all occasions. 2017 will be his fourth stab to be Kenya’s CEO.
