Sam Okoth is openly expressing his concerns about the obstacles hindering consistent positive results for his team. The head coach of Shabana, Sammy Okoth, has issued a plea to the county government of Kisii to expedite the rehabilitation of Gusii Stadium. He feels that his team is essentially playing all their matches away from home due to the ongoing stadium renovation.
Shabana had to relocate to a temporary home, Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, while the county government embarked on the renovation of Gusii Stadium. The latter was deemed inadequate to host FKFPL matches due to the poor condition of several of its facilities, particularly the playing surface.
While Shabana has managed to secure points on the road, they have encountered difficulties when playing in front of their own fans at Homa Bay stadium in the six matches they’ve played there so far.
Following their 1-0 victory over Tusker, Coach Okoth appealed to the county government to expedite the stadium rehabilitation process, as it could significantly improve their chances of achieving more consistent positive results.
Okoth stated, “The county government of Kisii should make an earnest effort because, practically, we are playing all our games away from home. Raila Odinga is not our stadium. We are also visitors there, so we cannot claim it as our own stadium. The county government must work diligently to improve our stadium. I believe our performance can improve significantly if we return to our home stadium.”
Before their recent win against Tusker, Shabana had recorded three draws and two defeats in their opening five games of the season. Okoth’s team also needs to improve their scoring, as they have only managed to score four goals in six games while conceding five during the same period.
Shabana’s next league match will be against Nairobi City Stars at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on October 22.
