Tusker aims for their seventh season victory as they play against the erratic Kenya Police this Wednesday afternoon. The match, set at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, marks the final FKFPL game of 2023.
After a shaky season start, Tusker has found form, remaining unbeaten in their last five games and securing recent wins against Bidco United and Nzoia Sugar.
In contrast, Kenya Police FC, currently ninth with 21 points, hasn’t won since their early December victory over Murang’a Seal. The team’s performance has declined following an initial resurgence under coach Zdravko Logarusic.
Tusker, in seventh place with 22 points, trails league leader Gor Mahia by nine points. Gor Mahia will face Bandari on Friday.
Despite having several international players, Tusker has struggled to match their previous season’s performance, particularly feeling the impact of losing Duke Abuya and Elvis Rupia to Tanzanian team Sindiga Big Stars. Tyson Otieno, their new creative force, is still adjusting, and striker Clinton Kinanga, with four goals this season, has yet to fully claim the striker’s role.
Tusker coach Robert Matano seems to have found a stable lineup in recent games against Posta, Nzoia, and Bidco, aiming to move the team to sixth place, just six points behind the leaders.
In another critical match, Muhoroni Youth, currently 17th with 12 points, faces 16th-placed Sofapaka, sitting on 14 points, in a significant relegation battle at the Muhoroni Sports Complex. Both teams, looking to escape relegation, will find a win crucial in this encounter, especially as Muhoroni seeks to build on their recent victory over Posta Rangers, which ended their five-game losing streak.
