Jonah Ayunga will need to elevate his performance at St. Mirren as the club gears up to secure Scottish sharpshooter James Scott on loan, with manager Stephen Robinson looking to strengthen his team with additional firepower.
The Buddies are eager to wrap up a deal before their upcoming game against Rangers. Manager Stephen Robinson, who has previously collaborated with Scott at Motherwell, seems to regard this history as a critical factor in the decision-making process.
Despite interest from several other Premiership clubs, Robinson’s connection with Scott has given St. Mirren a significant advantage.
Scott transferred from Motherwell to Hull in 2020, and he has since experienced a loan period at Hibernian before moving to Exeter last year. St Mirren has also acquired defender Elvis Bwomono as a free agent and midfielder Hyeokkyu Kwon from Celtic. This strategy may pave the way for Exeter to explore the Scottish market again, potentially aiming to acquire Joel Nouble from Livingston.
To maintain his position and not be overshadowed by James Scott, who is aspiring for a spot in the Scotland national team after playing for the U21 squad, Ayunga must enhance his game. Since recovering from a severe injury that sidelined him for nine months last February, the Harambee Stars forward has managed to net two goals in 10 league matches.
Ayunga’s journey with the Kenya national team began on August 5, 2018, when he received his first call-up, although he has yet to make his debut on the field.
