Soon after the horrific plane accident on Wednesday, July 12 involving Citizen TV journalists, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his National Super Alliance (NASA) counterpart, Raila Odinga, sent the victims get well soon messages.
The names of three journalists who cheated death in the incident that saw the light aircraft they were travelling in tumbling to the ground, were also released.
They are; Citizen TV‘s cameraman Mauritius Oduor, and field reporter Sam Ogina and Citizen Radio‘s Joseph Njane who sustained light injuries when the aircraft they were using to fly for a Nasa rally in Kabarnet in Baring County crash-landed in Kibera near the Southern Bypass.
The pilot and co-pilot sustained serious injuries and are still admitted in hospital although doctors say they are out of danger.
“His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has learnt with shock, the news of the plane crash this afternoon of Citizen TV and Radio Citizen journalists. Just yesterday, President Kenyatta spoke to one of the journalists, Joseph Njane Gatete, in an interview at State House, Nairobi…the prayers of the President and his family are with them and he wishes them a quick recovery,” said Uhuru in a statement by State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu.
Raila on his part noted that the journalists are some of the finest there is in the country adding that the accident was a reminder of the many struggles journalists go through in their quest to inform the public.
“We thank God for their saved lives and we assure the reporters, the Kenyan media fraternity and the Royal Media family in particular that our thoughts and prayers are with them. It is my hope and prayer that we will see Oduor, Ogina and Njane back on the campaign trail before Election Day,” also read parts of the statement.
